Trentham Estate
Located on the southern fringe of Stoke-on-Trent, is the little village of Trentham where the stunning and impressive Trentham Estate can be found. A 735-acre estate, this area has been turned into gorgeous gardens complete with a monkey forest, home to 140 mischievous monkeys – a perfect day out for the family! The remains of Trentham Hall continue to age in the northern part of the grounds, whereby visitors can view the fascinating architecture and photograph ruins of the sculpture gallery and clock tower. A unique shopping village is close by the estate too, all complete with little wooden shops full of trinkets, gifts and food.
Biddulph Grange
In between the towns of Congleton and Leek sits the spectacular Biddulph Grange and its gardens, belonging to the National Trust. Although you can’t go in the house, the grounds are overlooked by the commanding home and there are plenty of architectural gems hidden away in the gardens. Whilst walking the gardens, you will be on the path of global discovery from a Victorian vision of China, complete with a pagoda and a joss house to an Egyptian garden featuring a Sphinx and obelisks. As well as these, there is also an Italian garden and Himalayan glen – don’t forget to stop off at the half-timbered Cheshire Cottage and tea rooms too.
Little Moreton Hall
Near the little town of Congleton and only a few minutes away from Biddulph Grange sits the unusual building of Little Moreton Hall. Also National Trust, you can marvel at the tumbling Tudor architecture and learn how it has completely defied all logic and expectations by the fact it’s still standing today. With unique architecture and a scenic moat, free guided tours operate daily, where you can learn more about the history dating back 500 years. Make sure to explore the garden and grab a hot drink and a slice of cake from the tea rooms while you’re there.
